POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN FRESHWATER ECOLOGY AT KARLSTAD UNIVERSITY, SWEDEN

Karlstad University has two university-wide, one year postdoctoral appointments available for the period summer/autumn 2005 to autumn 2006. The Department of Biology is applying for one of these appointments and is therefore soliciting potential applicants for the position. We would like to have a highly qualified applicant within the field of freshwater ecology, whose research has relevance for the research interests at our Department. Both empirical as well as more theoretical studies (modelling) are of interest. The applicant will also have access to a newly-built, 250 m2 aquarium facility, equipped with aquaria and artificial streams. Research at the Department is focused on ecology and conservation biology in forest landscapes, and primarily addresses questions relating to forests and water (lakes and streams), even the interface between forests and water. Faculty are currently studying questions addressing population and community-level processes, for example, fragmented landscapes, importance of deciduous forest for stream fish and invertebrates, fish migrations, species interactions, winter ecology of fish, stream regulation, rare species and hydrological restoration. Most researchers also participate in Miljöfocus, a multidisciplinary research group with researchers from the natural sciences, engineering sciences and the social sciences. Much of our research is done in cooperation with external agencies, for example the county boards, Highway Administration, Forestry Board, etc.

You are eligible to apply if you have obtained your Ph. D. within the last five years (note that you must have a doctoral degree at the time of your application).
