Post-doctoral Researcher
Enschede, , 7500 AA(The Netherlands), 38 hours per week
International Institute for Geo information Science and Earth Observation
Job description
Theresearcher is required to work on the project "Modelling radiation, heat and mass (water vapour and carbon) exchanges at theland-atmosphere interface using multi-angular optical and thermalmeasurements". The project is a collaborative research project fundedby the Nationaal Programma Gebruikersondersteuning GO (SRON, EO-071).The project team consists of Prof.Dr. Z. Su (ITC, the Netherlands),Prof.Dr. M. Menenti (University Louis Pasteur, France), Dr. W. Verhoef(National Aerospace Laboratory, the Netherlands), Prof.Dr. A.J. Dolman(Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and Dr. L. Jia(Wageningen University and Research Centre, the Netherlands). The goalof this project is to improve understanding of the land-atmosphereexchange processes of radiation, heat, water vapour and carbon fluxesat heterogeneous land surfaces, based on multi-angular synergisticoptical and thermal measurements obtained by space borne and airbornesensors.
In close collaboration with a PhD researcher, the post-doctoralresearcher will work towards developing the convective transfer ofenergy, water and carbon in a 3D heterogeneous vegetation canopy. Thiswill involve better parameterisation of turbulent fluxes at the landsurface, improvements in the parameterisation of plant physiologicalprocesses, and the integration of developed concepts and modelcomponents with the parallel development on radiative transfer achievedby the PhD researcher.
The tasks of the two researches may be adjusted in line with the qualifications of the applicants.
Requirements
Required education/skills: Doctorate
At the time of appointment the post-doctoral researcher must hold a PhD(doctorate), with the dissertation relating to the focus of the aboveproject.
The required background for the position is an exact education inphysical sciences (hydrology, atmospheric sciences, physics andengineering), preferably supported by expertise in quantitative remotesensing, physical meteorology and environmental physics, includingoptical and thermal remote sensing observations. Familiarity with fieldexperiments and at least one programming language (e.g. IDL, Fortran orC) is desired.
