Post-doc position in bioinformatics: Software engineer

The Vriend group is searching an experienced software engineer, for the GPCRDB and NucleaRDBprojects. The GPCRDB and NucleaRDB are the proof of concept ofMolecular Class Specific Information System (MCSIS) technology. TheseMCSIS-es collect, validate, combine and disseminate heterogenous dataabout a family of related molecules. Presently, these system aremaintained using a large series of small software packages that oftenwere designed by students. We want/need to streamline the production ofMCSIS updates, and generate an environment that allows for easyincorporation of new modules, programs, data types, and even newconcepts.

We look for an informatician/programmer with at leastfive years experience in software design and implementation. Affinitywith molecular sciences is a requirement, but a formal training inbiosciences is not. It helps, though, if the candidate knows thedifference between a medicine, a protein, a genome, and a cell.

Somekeywords that we like to see in the candidate's resume are: Python,Postgres/MySQL/Oracle, Linux, web-programming, CGI, user-interfaces.The candidate speaks and writes English reasonably well, and is willingto help the group with programming, software installation and databasemanagement problems.

Although we do not necessarily require thecandidate to have a PhD, candidates can count with a salary inagreement with a normal post-doc position. The position is for twoyears with a potential extension till maximally four years.

Candidatescan apply by sending a CV, a description of a series of softwareprojects recently worked on, and a series of suggestions forimprovements of either the GPCRDB or the NucleaRDB to:

B. van Kampen
CMBI RUN
Toernooiveld 1
6525 ED Nijmegen

Please mention the keyword MCSIS.
