Norway: Postdoctoral Position in Thermochronology and Tectonics University of Bergen
One Postdoctoral position (2 years) or one researchfellow (3 years) - Thermochronology and Tectonics Englishtranslation At the Department of Earth Science there is a vacantposition as post doctoral fellow (2 years) or research fellow (3 years)in thermochronology and tectonics. Regarding the postdoctoralposition: A new fission-track laboratory is currently established atthe Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen. We look for ahighly motivated scientist with experience in thermochronologicaltechniques, including fission-track analyses, U-Th-He dating andmodeling techniques. The successful candidate will participate inselected ongoing projects studying the exhumation history of passivecontinental margins and orogens, in Norway, Antarctica, Madagascar,Mozambique and possibly Sudan. Applicants must hold a recent PhD orfinish their PhD in the very nearest future in thermochronology andtectonics. The candidate should be able to start 1. July 2006. Salary for the postdoctor position will be paid in accordancewith level 54 on the government salary scale (code 1352) currentlyequivalent to NOK 378 200 per annum (about 45.000 euros/year).
Apostdoctoral position is a temporary appointment. It is not possiblefor any person to work under more than one temporary appointment forthe same institution. The objective of postdoctoral positions is toqualify the selected candidates for work in senior positions in theirdisciplines. Regarding the researchfellow/PhD-student: Alternatively, the position above can be filledwith a PhD student. Inthis case the successful candidate will focus on one of the aboveworking areas. For example, the PhD project could center on a detailedfission track study of several sections across the continental marginof Norway, especially also in the Bergen area. The successful candidateshould hold a Diploma or Master degree (or equivalent) in EarthSciences. The master's degree must be completed by the application deadline. The candidateneeds experience in geochronological techniques, preferentially infission-track analyses and a good background in structural geology andtectonics.
The research fellow must take part in the University'sapproved PhD programme leading to the degree within a time limit of 3years. Hence, applicants must meet the formal admission requirementsfor the PhD programme.

Salary for the Ph.D.position will be paid in accordance with level 39 on the governmentsalary scale (code 1017) currently equivalent to NOK 292 000 per annumabout 35000 Euros/year).
