Nederland: Postdoc in Photons in Strong Scattering Media
Job description
Inthe group Photon Scattering we are looking for an experimental postdocto work in the area of light scattering in nanomaterials. We expect thepostdoc to pursue research on his/her own as well as to take part inthe supervising of PhD students in the group. Own initiatives will bestrongly appreciated. Research topics include the study of Andersonlocalization of light, ultra-miniature lasers ("scattering laser" and"random laser") and quantum optical aspects of light propagation.Strongly scattering samples are produced in the group with the help ofwet chemical etching techniques.
More information about this research project can be found in the following papers:

Location
The FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) is one ofthe national research institutes of the Stichting FOM (the Foundationfor Fundamental Research on Matter). The institute employs around 200people, half of whom are research staff (faculty staff, postdocs, andPhD students). AMOLF provides a dynamic environment, where advancedresearch is performed in research groups comprising around 8 scientistson average. See also http://www.amolf.nl.
The group Photon Scattering studies the characteristics of thepropagation of light in strongly inhomogeneous nanomaterials. Theactivities in the group include the use of advanced optical techniques, developing state-of-the-art sample preparation techniques, anddevelopment of necessary theory for interpretation of the experimentalresults. Our group has just moved from the University of Twente to FOMinstitute AMOLF.
Requirements
We are looking for an experimental scientist (physicalchemist/physicist), preferably with experience or interest in the fieldof optics. The successful candidate will have a strong affinity withtheory.
Conditions of employment
You will be employed by the FOM-foundation for a fixed period of 2years. Your salary will be up to a maximum of 3,396 Euro gross permonth, depending on your level of experience. For your pension you willparticipate in 'Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP'.
The conditions of employment of the FOM-foundation are laid down in theCollective Labour Agreement for Research Centres(CAO-Onderzoekinstellingen), more exclusive information is available atthis website under Personeelsinfo (in Dutch) or under Personnel (in English). General information about working at FOM can be found in the English part of this website under Personnel. The 'FOM-sollicitatiecode' (in Dutch) applies to this position.
