Italy: The Bogliasco Fellowships Program


Bogliasco Fellowships are awarded, without regard to nationality, toqualified persons doing advanced creative work or scholarly research in thefollowing disciplines:

Archaeology , Architecture , Classics , Dance , Film or Video , History, Landscape Architecture , Literature , Music , Philosophy , Theater , Visual Arts

In the Arts, the Study Center welcomes persons doing both creativeand scholarly work (such as Art History, Musicology, Film Criticism,and so on). With respect to Dance, Music, and Theater, however, theCenter does not have rehearsal studio space for persons wishing to workextensively in performance.

Applicants for Fellowships are expected to demonstrate significantachievement in their disciplines, commensurate with their age and experience.In addition, they must submit descriptions of the projects that they intend topursue in Bogliasco. An approved project is presumed to lead to thecompletion of an artistic, literary, or scholarly work, followed by publication,performance, exhibition, or other public presentation.

Approximately 50 Bogliasco Fellowships are awarded each year. Theyare scheduled during the two semesters of the traditional academicyear. During 2006-2007 the dates are as follows: September 11 toDecember 15 (fall-winter), and February 12 to May 18 (winter-spring).Fellowships usually have a duration of one month (31-32 days) or, insome cases, a half semester (48 days). In special circumstancesresidencies of other lengths may be approved.

Application deadlines are as follows: January 15, 2006, for thefall-winter semester beginning in September, 2006, and April 15, 2006,for the winter-spring semester beginning in February, 2007.

Bogliasco Fellows may be accompanied by spouses (or spouse-equivalentcompanions) during their stay at the Liguria Study Center. Spouses orcompanions who intend to pursue a project in one of the disciplines, and whowish to be designated as Bogliasco Fellows, must submit separate andcomplete applications. The Bogliasco Foundation encourages such jointapplications.

Information for Applicant
Applications for Bogliasco Fellowships are reviewed twice a year by TheBogliasco Foundation Selection Committees. The following documents,which may be presented in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish,are required of all applicants:
(1) The completed application form (with personal data,project abstract, preferences for residency dates, and otherinformation).
(2) A short-form curriculum vitae, no more than three pages in length.
(3) A description of the project, no more than one page in length, that the applicant would pursue during her/his Fellowship.
(4) Three reference letters that provide an assessment of theapplicant's professional achievements and an evaluation of the proposedproject.
(5) A sample of the applicant's work, which must be submitted in triplicate.
