Information about the Program

The objective of the program is to attract young talented researchers at IMT.An IMT Research Fellow is a resident researcher pursuing advanced studies beyond the doctoral level in preparation for an independent career. Research Fellows are appointed for a fixed term, from one year up to three years. All contracts may be renewed once, for up to six years. The successful candidate will participate to IMT research projects and will have a limited teaching load, in the context of the graduate programs of the school.The successful candidates will work in close contact with other young resident researchers, PhD students and senior professors/researchers.IMT offers a multicultural, collegial and international research environment. Summary
A postdoctoral position is available for the research on the computer generation of images with the goal to enhance understanding of image data and its applications, focusing in particular on the visual modelling and reconstruction process involved in the interactive visualisation of Cultural Heritage related data. The candidate will possess the expertise for the software and hardware resources necessary to setup the audio-video subsystem of complex Virtual Environments systems. Centered on real-time computer graphics, research activities will cover a broad range of related topics, from High-efficiency software architectures for scene graph management, to mesh simplification and detail recovering, and to complex visualization systems such as CAVE-like environments.

Duties
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be asked to conduct applied research on:
- Computer Graphics and Visualisation Systems;
- Real-time management of complex Virtual Environments;
- Contribute to IMT teaching activity at PhD level (lectures, seminars, tutorship).Required Qualifications
- PhD in Real-time Computer Graphics, Virtual Environments or related field;
- Experience in Virtual Environments for Cultural Heritage;
- Excellent knowledge of Computer Graphics algorithms, software and Hardware;
- Strong capabilities in Software Engineering with extensive development skills for interactive and multi-threaded programming;
- Ability to use Virtual Reality Equipment and related software and hardware;
- Experience in collecting and analyzing primary survey data;
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams;
- Strong communications skills in written and spoken English;
- Goal-oriented and creative team player, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in engineering/development of Virtual Environment systems, particularly in the field of Cultural Heritage. Familiarity with Virtual Environments installation such as CAVEs, PowerWalls, HMDs and Virtual Reality equipment in general. Experience of EU-level research initiative and involvement in EU projects and NoE.
