Italy: 2005/2006 Research Fellowship for MSc and PhD Holders
Art. 1
The fellowships will be granted to carry out research projects at theUniversity of Trieste. Applicants must hold a third level degree(Ph.D.) or a second level degree (MSc or equivalent) with at least 5years of research experience in Universities or Research Institutions,and must be under 35 years of age. Proficiency in English and/orItalian is required.
Art. 2
The Fellowships are for a twelve months period of full-time work,starting from December 1st 2005, or, if later, from the first day ofwork at the University of Trieste.
Art. 3
The grants will be paid in three instalments:
€ 8.000,00 (tax included) upon arrival
€ 6.000,00 (tax included) after six months
€ 2.000,00 (tax included) at the end of the research work, uponsubmission of the final report by a Professor of the University ofTrieste, who will act as the scientific responsible of the project.Taxes will not be deduced from the grant if there is an agreement ontaxation between Italy and the home country of the fellow.
In this case, the fellow shall produce the following documents:
a) a certificate issued by the relevant foreign Authority stating his/her personal data (date of birth and place of residence);
b) a certificate issued by the relevant foreign Authority stating his/her foreign Taxpayer Code;
c) a statement issued by the foreign Tax Authority, drawn, or legallytranslated, in Italian or English, certifying the payment of taxes inhis/her country of residence, with reference to the application of theInternational Agreement against double taxation on income and assetsbetween his/her country of residence and the Republic of Italy d) astatement by the fellow to avail himself/herself of the above -mentioned Agreement as implemented in the national legislation ofhis/her Country of residence; the pertinent law and paragraph(s) mustbe specified.
Should the above-listed documents not be produced, the "Consorzio" shall be entitled by law to apply tax deduction as a due tax.
Art. 4
Upon notification of the fellowship award the fellow will be requiredto underwrite a health insurance in Italy for the whole duration of thefellowship. The cost of the insurance is not covered by the fellowship.
Art. 5
The fellow will submit every four months to the "Consorzio" a progressreport co-signed by the supervisor. Upon completing the project, thefellow must submit to the "Consorzio" a final report, co-signed by thesupervisor of the project, summarizing the research work carried outand the results achieved. The "Consorzio per lo Sviluppo Internazionaledell'Universitàdi Trieste" must be acknowledged in any publicationarising from this work.
Art. 6

The following documents must be enclosed in the application:
- a third/second level degree certificate including all exams and marks obtained;
- a letter of presentation confirming a minimum of five years ofexperience in research at a University or Research Institution (for 2ndlevel degree holders only);
- a curriculum vitae;
- a declaration of proficiency in English and/or Italian;
- a list of publications;
- an outline of the research project that the candidate intends tocarry out under the supervision of a staff member of the University ofTrieste;
- a letter of acceptance of the proposed programme from the supervisor.
Art. 7
The evaluation of the applications and the final decision will beentrusted to a "ad hoc" Committee appointed by the Administrative Boardof the "Consorzio". The Committee will be chaired by the President ofthe "Consorzio" or by his Deputy.
Art. 8
The application for the fellowship implies acceptance of the aboveregulations and the commitment to inform the "Consorzio" on thestarting date of the full time research activity within 60 days fromnotification of the award.
Art. 9
The granting of the scholarship shall depend on the approval offinancial funds by the relevant Authority of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
