Alexander S Onassis Public Benefit Foundation: Eleventh Foreigners’ Fellowships Programme

In 1995 the Foundation established an annual programme of research grants and educational scholarships, addressed exclusively to persons of non Greek descent, members of national academies, university professors of all levels holding a doctoral degree, post-doctoral researchers, artists, translators of Greek literature, primary and secondary education teachers in service who teach Greek as a foreign language and/or Greek literature, history and culture, postgraduate students and PhD candidates.

Exceptionally, on a case-by-case basis, the Programme is also addressed to persons of Greek descent, (second generation onwards), who permanently reside abroad and have been studying or working in foreign Universities for at least 10 to 15 years (depending on the category). The grants and scholarships offered within the framework of this Programme cover research, artistic work, further education and post-graduate studies in Greece.

Applicants are selected by the Board of Directors of the Foundation based on recommendations by academic advisors chosen by the Foundation (university professors, researchers, artists and other personalities of the scientific, cultural and financial life of Greece). The participation of advisors in these committees is honorary and their contribution is voluntary.
