Germany: Research Position in Empirical Macroeconomics at Kiel Institute


The Kiel Institute for World Economics (Institut f r Weltwirtschaft) isa leading economic research institution in Germany. It carries outresearch in international economics, environmental economics, economicgrowth and macroeconomics and is engaged in a broad range of policyadvisory projects.

The Kiel Institute is seeking to hire an experienced empiricalmacroeconomist to fill a full-time research position in its researcharea Macroeconomics . The successful candidate is expected to play aleading role in a research project that aims at developing an empiricalmicro-macro-model that can be used to analyze possible systemic risks inthe German banking system. Work on this project will involve developingand/or adjusting structural macroeconometric and vector autoregressivemodels, linking equations based on micro-data evidence withmacro-models, and performing deterministic and stochastic simulations.

The ideal candidate will have a sound publication record, considerableknowledge in the fields of modern macroeconomics and time serieseconometrics and substantive experience in applying macroeconometricmethods using standard software packages (Matlab, RATS, Eviews, etc.).As the project requires bringing together the output from a number ofresearchers, previous experience with managing research projects will bea definite plus. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who isable to work under pressure of tight deadlines, both independently andwithin a team. A good command of English is required for the position.

We intend to fill the position as soon as possible. The contract will betime-limited until 31. December 2008. The salary is determined accordingto the public sector salary scheme (BAT Ib).
