Germany: Postdoc in Signal Transduction Research

Postdoc/Ph.D. Student in Signal Transduction Research
Klinikum der Heinrich-Heine Universität Düsseldorf

Closing Date: 31 Aug 2005

Applications are invited for vacant positions (starting as soon as possible) for a junior scientist/postdoc (salary: BAT-IIa) or a Ph.D. student (salary: BAT-IIa/2) to join a dynamic research group at the Institute for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology II at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf.

Projects at the Institute focus on the genetic, cell biological, and biochemical analysis of the biological role of cellular signalling pathways controlled by pertussis toxin-sensitive Gi-proteins and PI3-kinases [Mol. Endocrinol. (2001) 15, 1211; Mol. Pharmacol. (2002) 61, 628; J. Cell Biol. (2003) 160, 89; J. Biol. Chem. (2003) 278, 11536; Nature Neurosci. (2004) 7, 939; Mol. Endocrinol. (2005) 19, 431].In particular, we generate and use mouse knock out models to investigate cardiovascular, hepatic, immunological and neuronal functions of Gi-proteins and PI3-kinases. To address new roles of Gi proteins and PI3-kinases in signalling events controlling metabolic functions of the liver, the successful candidate will reinforce our group and will be expected to generate and analyze transgenic mice.

Applicants should be highly motivated and hold a degree in medicine or science (e.g. biology, biochemistry or pharmacy). Experience in cell biology, biochemistry or molecular biology is desirable for the postdoc position (as documented by publications). You will benefit from collaborative work in a highly stimulating interdisciplinary environment (BMFZ, SFB 575, SFB 612, Graduiertenkolleg 1089) encompassing a wide spectrum of modern techniques.

If interested, please mail a short application including CV, statement of research experience and interest, list of publications and names and contact addresses for two references to
