France: Postdoctoral Position in Computational Sciences at Grenoble
PostDoctoral Position in Computational Sciences: “Improvement of a 3D soil water transfer module into a modular distributed hydrological model. Application to runoff generation”
The applicant will be recruted in a french hydrology laboratory (Cemagref-Lyon/LTHE-Grenoble) but the work will be performed in collaboration with applied mathematicians (Lab LJK & project-team MOISE - INRIA, Grenoble).
The work will be conducted in the framework of the STREP-HYDRATE project (Hydrometeorological data resources and technologies for effective flash-flood forecasting) and will contribute to the development of a fully distributed 3D soil water transfer module, including runoff, to test hypotheses about water pathways and define the controlling factors of runoff generation.
The applicant will elaborate an efficient numerical scheme for solving the 3D Richards equation describing flow in the saturated/unsaturated zone, using an unstructured geometry with large ratio between lateral and vertical dimensions. See details at: http://www.lyon.cemagref.fr/hh/stages
A PhD in Computational Sciences or Applied Mathematics is required. Skills of the candidate: Strong competence in numerical methods for PDEs (knowledge on Richards equation would be appreciated), ability to work in team and in a multidisciplinary context.
This is a 12 months position with 2500 Euros/month, starting preferably in May-June 2007.
Applications with full CV and two referees names should be sent before March 15 2007 to:
