Center for Comparative Literature andSociety Fellowship 2006-2007 

The Center for Comparative Literature andSociety at Columbia University will appoint one postdoctoral fellow for the year 2006-2007. Thefellows must have received the PhD's between January 1, 2000 and July 1, 2006.

Aims of the Center for ComparativeLiterature and Society

The Center, founded in 1998, houses Columbia'sprestigious graduate and undergraduate programs in Comparative Literature andSociety. The main purpose of the Center is to rethink comparative literary andcultural studies in their relation to area studies and the historicallyoriented social sciences. Accordingly, we encourage applications from a widevariety of humanities and social science disciplines. The fellow will be giventime and resources to develop his or her scholarship in a broadening andexperimental cross-disciplinary and cross-regional context. The fellow willjoin an intellectually vibrant community of scholars from the humanities, thesocial sciences, architecture, and law affiliated with the Center. In thespring semester, the fellow will teach one course for the Center, if possiblein a team with a Columbia faculty member. Regularly scheduled lectures, workshops and seminarswill permit the fellow to associate with many of Columbia University'sleading scholars engaged in the Center's innovative project.

Stipend

The stipend for 2006-2007 will be $41,000.Full fringe benefits will be added, plus $1,000 for travel.  An additional$2,000 will be given for innovative course planning.
