CAS-TWAS Fellowships for Visiting Scholars in China

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World [formerly ThirdWorld Academy of Sciences] (TWAS), Trieste, Italy, have agreed to offerup to fifteen fellowships per year to visiting scholars from developingcountries (other than China) who wish to pursue advanced research in natural sciences.

Programme Details

• The CAS-TWAS Visiting Scholars fellowships will be tenableat the research institutions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences listedbelow for a period of one to three months.
• CAS will providea stipend to cover food, accomodation and emergency medical aid;international travel (return economy class fare by shortest route) willbe covered by TWAS.
• The fellowships do not include provisions for accompanying family members.
• Successful applicants must not take up other assignments during the period of their fellowships.

Eligibility

Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

• be a maximum age of 55 years on 31 December of the application year;
• holda Ph.D. degree in one of the fields of natural sciences and a regularresearch assignment with at least five years of postdoctoral researchexperience;
• be nationals of a developing country (other than China);
• provide evidence that they will return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.

Guidelines for completion of form

• Choose a host research institute in China from the list of 32 CAS institutes below.
• Applicants should also make advance contact with the host institute to define the scope and content of their research work.
• However,any final decision concerning the host institute will be made by theChinese Academy of Sciences in consultation with TWAS.
