CONTEXT
The National Research Council (NRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Business Development Bank (BDC) of Canada have united their resources for funding special projects related to the nanotechnologies. 28 researchers and professors obtained an important funding for working on “Polyester nanocomposites for greener transportation, construction and packaging applications”. The projects are related to the manufacturing and chemical formulation of nanoclay reinforced nanocomposites and their modeling issues.

In this context, professors Daniel Therriault and Martin Lévesque of the Laboratory for Multi-Scale Mechanics (LM2 - http://www.polymtl.ca/lm2/en/) are recruiting a post-doctoral fellow to work on the modeling and manufacturing of nanocomposites.

TASKS DESCRIPTION
The following tasks will be attributed to the post-doctoral fellow:

  1. Conducting independent research on a topic suggested by the candidate, related to the modeling and manufacturing of nanocomposites, and approved by the supervisors.
  2. Participation to the supervision of two Ph.D. students involved in the mechanical behavior modeling of nanocomposites.
  3. Participation to the supervision of one Ph.D. and one M.Sc. students involved in the manufacturing of nanocomposites at the microscopic scale.
  4. Management of the laboratory infrastructures for project 2.

CONDITIONS
The candidate will be hired for 18 months and the position is currently available. The start date is negotiable. The position will be closed once a suitable candidate is found. The salary will be CAN $35,000 per year.

APPLICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. He must have reasonable experience with nanocomposites characterization and mechanical behavior modeling. The candidate must show management skills as well as an aptitude for teamwork. His English writing skills must be excellent. Good oral communication skills in English and/or French are required for this position.

The interested candidate should send by emai

    l the following documents:

  2. A list of publications where there is a clear distinction between peer reviewed international journals and all the other publications.
  3. Electronic copy of the candidate Ph.D. thesis.
  4. Electronic copies of up to three most significant peer reviewed international journal papers where the candidate is an author.
  5. Statement of purpose.
  6. A two-page research proposal explaining the kind of research the candidate wishes to conduct during his 18-month employment at École Polytechnique. The proposal should include milestones, timetable and a budget.

The application should be sent to Martin Lévesque or Daniel Therriault. Email addresses can be found on LM2’s website (www.polymtl.ca/lm2).
