Postdoctoral Position in Applied and Industrial Mathematics, Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences (Vancouver, Canada)
Applications are invited for up to two postdoctoral positions inApplied and Industrial Mathematics beginning July 1, 2006 (the startdate is negotiable). The positions will be held within the”Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing (MMSC)” project, whichis funded through the Mathematics of Information Technology andComplex Systems (MITACS) Network of Centres of Excellence.Information about the project can be found at the MMSC websitehttp://www.math.ubc.ca/~wetton/mmsc. The salary is $45,000 Canadian,plus benefits.
The successful candidates will have opportunities for collaborationwith researchers at both Simon Fraser University and the University ofBritish Columbia in nearby Vancouver. No teaching is required forthis position, although limited teaching duties can be arranged (withstipend) if desired. The candidate will work half-time on industrialproblems from the group’s sponsor, Ballard Power Systems, a worldleader in hydrogen fuel cell technology.
This position is for one year with expected renewal for an additionalyear, and is subject to the availability of funds. Candidates mustpossess a recent Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related discipline, and haveproven ability, or potential, for excellent research. Experience inscientific computing and industrial mathematical modeling are definiteassets.
