institution, whose scientific staff holds a prominent role in the development of methods for
structural reliability analysis and computational stochastic mechanics.

Project Description – Applicants Profile

  • The project in which the applicant will be involved in is entitled „Quality Assurance of Mechanical Systems and Structures” and is sponsored by the Austrian Science Foundation (FWF). It is concerned with the development of procedures to assess the robustness of largescale structural models (e.g. the Ariane Launcher, shown on the right).
  • The ideal applicant has a degree in either civil, mechanical, aeronautical engineering (or a related discipline), a solid background in computational mechanics (FE) and programming (MATLAB, C++) and a good command of the English language. Proficiency in one of the major general purpose finite element codes (e.g. NASTRAN) and familiarity with probability/statistics are advantageous.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work in an internationally active institute, within a stimulating and vibrant project group
  • The possibility to pursue research interests in computational stochastic mechanics, leading to a doctoral degree or “Habilitation”, with permanent, highlevel academic advisorship
  • Research in context with engineering applications of great practical interest
  • Competitive salary
