Worldwide: International English Essay Contest The International Herald Tribune/The Asahi Shimbun
To commemorate the fifth anniversary of itspublication, The International Herald Tribune/TheAsahi Shimbun is sponsoring an English-language essaywriting contest, in which all college and graduatestudents are invited to take part. Entrants must writetheir essays on one of the following topics:
- My experience of international exchanges andproposals to encourage such exchanges throughout theworld.
- Japanese culture and traditio—what is it thatmakes the Japanese culture attractive and how thiscountry`s cultural traditions can be conveyed topeople living overseas.
- Information technology and college life—how tobest integrate IT.
Essays must be typed on A4 paper and should not exceed800 words. Please include your name, birth date,address, name of college and year, and telephonenumber.

The first prize winner will receive a cash award of100,000 yen. Second prize is 50,000 yen. Winners willbe announced in the Herald Tribune/Asahi in July. Theaward ceremony will be held in Tokyo in July.
