The SSPI Scholarship Program
TheSSPI (The Society of Satellite Professionals International) Scholarship Program assists deserving high school and universitygraduates with meeting the high costs of undergraduate andpost-graduate study in satellite-related disciplines. Through thegenerosity of Scholarship Sponsors, SSPI provides scholarships rangingfrom $2,000 to $5,000 to high school seniors, undergraduate andgraduate students from locations around the world, including Cameroon,France, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Japan, Taiwan, the United Kingdom,and the United States. Applicantsmust be current high school seniors, college or universityundergraduate students or graduate students who are studying or intendto study satellite-related technologies, policies or applications.Successful scholarship applications have been received from studentspursuing studies in these areas related to telecommunications, remotesensing, imaging, space law, business, distance learning, meteorology,energy, navigation, business, government, and broadcasting. 2005-2006 Scholarships
SSPIhas made changes to the scholarship application process, which willbecome effective for the 2005 scholarship program. The process is nowdivided into two stages. The goal of the two-tiered application is tomake the process is to make the application process, which is verydetailed, a little easier for students. SSPI has made the new process applicant-friendly!
During Stage One, which runs from September to December, students will submit a preliminary applicationand their current transcripts. The preliminary application will assesseach student's interest in the satellite field - a requisite for allSSPI scholarships. Based on these assessments, successful applicantswill be invited to submit personal references, a personal statement andsample work. Stage Two will run from January to April.
NOTE: The deadline for Stage One Applications is DECEMBER 31, 2004. No applications received after that date will be considered.See How to Apply below

SSPI Scholarships
Thefollowing is a partial list of available scholarships and, whereapplicable, their specific requirements or areas of focus. Scholarshipamounts are determined by the contributing organization, and the listbelow is subject to change. You are welcome to indicate in yourapplication which scholarship you wish to apply for, but SSPI and itsscholarship underwriters reserve the right to consider you for adifferent scholarship.
NEW! The International Space University Scholarship - Announced in the August-September issue of the Orbiter,the ISU Scholarship is offered to a U.S. student to attend the 2005/06Masters program at the University in Strasbourg, France. The Irving Goldstein Memorial Scholarship- Established in the memory of the former Intelsat CEO and satelliteindustry leader, and designed to assist students in financial need whoare pursuing studies in telecommunications and other high-tech fields.
The Access Intelligence Scholarship - Recognizesinnovative work in the satellite field that emphasizes the commercialand/or humanitarian aspects of new technologies and services, and isconferred on the entrant who best analyzes the entrepreneurialpossibilities of new satellite services, technologies, or applicationsfrom a profit-driven or public-service oriented perspective.
The A.W. Perigard Fund - For submissions relating to satellite communications from students with demonstrated financial need.
The PSSC Legacy Fund - For submissions relating to international satellite applications and distance education.
The SSPI Mid-Atlantic Chapter -For undergraduate and graduate students attending schools in the USstates of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia or the Districtof Columbia.
The SSPI Southern California Scholarship- For current undergraduate or graduate students in the SouthernCalifornia University System who are female or persons of color andmaintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher, to be used for study in a satellitecommunications related field of study. The scholarship is presented inassociation in association with the T. Howard Foundation.
The SSPI Northeast Chapter Scholarship - For undergraduate and graduate students attending schools in the Northeastern United States.
Qualifications
- Commitmentto pursue education and career opportunities in the satellite industryor a field making direct use of satellite technology
- Academic and leadership achievement
- Potential for significant contribution to the satellite communications industry
- A scientific, engineering, research, business or creative submission meeting high standards
To participate in Stage One of the SSPI Scholarship Program, simply print a copy of the Stage One Applicationand return it with a current transcript, postmarked no later thanDecember 31, 2004. Students who successfully pass Stage One will beinvited to participate in Stage Two of the applicationprocess.Scholarship Winners will be chosen from amongst the Stage Twoparticipants.
