The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals (API Fellowships)
The API Fellowships enable public intellectuals in Asia to pursue intellectual, cultural and professional projects in another Asian country according to one of three predetermined themes.
The API Fellowships are fully funded by The Nippon Foundation.
An International Selection Committee is responsible for the final selection of the candidates recommended by the respective Country Selection Committees.
The API Executive Committee oversees the running of the API Fellowships in consultation with the Nippon Foundation.
The Regional Coordinating Institution, responsible for the regional management of the API Fellowships, is the Institute of Asian Studies Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
Eligibility
1.Applicants must hold the nationality or proper resident status of oneof the five participating countries and reside in the country at thetime of application;
2. Applicants must attend an interview at a designated date;
3. Applicants must propose research and/or research activities which start after July 1, 2006 and are completed by the end of September 2007;
4. Applicantsmust have a basic knowledge of English or a language(s) spoken in thecountry(ies) where the proposed research and/or activities areconducted;
5. Applicants must be based in the region/country and will continue to be so in the future.
Application
Applications are invited for the API Senior Fellowships and the API Fellowships for the fellowship period July 2006- September 2007.
Applications should include the following:
(1) Letter of Self-Introduction indicating background as a public intellectual and reason for interest in the Fellowship
(2) Project Statement outlining research and/or professional activities to be pursued
(3) Curriculum Vitae
(4) Two written Letters of Reference
(5) Completed Application Form
