Technology for Industry Fellowships (TIF)
The Technology for Industry Fellowships (TIF) Programme enables students and experienced researchers to complete R&D projects in companies.
TIF supports science, technology and engineering projects conducted in, and managed by, companies. The Fellow must spend a minimum of 50% of his/her time on the project in the company.
TIF aims to:
| Enhance scientific and technical skills and competencies in New Zealand businesses. |
| Expose undergraduates, masterate and doctorate students and post-doctoral researchers to an industrial environment. |
| Create research and technology of benefit for businesses. |
| Foster links between universities, research institutes and businesses. |
This scheme operates on three levels Undergraduate, Education and Expert
| Undergraduate and Education Fellows are characterised by the immersing of the Fellow within the commercial environment for a majority of the time. |
| Experts bring a relevant new knowledge into the business. The expert has demonstrability different expertise compared to the business's current technical capability. The business must be able to actively absorb the new expertise during the tenure of the expert. |
Undergraduate: Senior undergraduate students

Education: Masters and Doctoral students
What's available
| Masters per degree |
PhD per year for up to 3 years |
|
| Stipend | $20,000 | $25,000 |
| Host Fee provided to the University | $5,000 | $5,000 |
| Special allowance | $1,000 | $1,000 |
The special allowance is available in special circumstances, on a co-funding basis, when distance is a barrier to companies undertaking projects with universities.

Expert: Secondment of an expert into a company to grow new technical capability
Key requirements
| The expert is named and a CV is provided. |
| The expert's level of expertise has a fit with the company's current level of technical capability. |
| The process by which the company absorbs the new expertise is identified. |
What's available
Salary support of up to $65,000 plus GST per annum for up to three years.
