Sampoerna Foundation was founded on March 1, 2001, through a generous gift from Putera Sampoerna and PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk. The foundation is incorporated according to Regulation No. 16 of the Republic of Indonesia, enacted on August 6, 2001, governing the establishment and operation of not-for-profit organizations dedicated to the public benefit. Sampoerna Foundation operates in accordance with these laws and with internationally accepted practices for philanthropic organizations.

Sampoerna Foundation Scholarship Programs:
- Primary Level Scholarship:
Sampoerna Foundation will launch new 1000 scholarships per annum starting June 2004. - Secondary Level Scholarships:
Sampoerna Foundation has distributed 9110 scholarships to Senior High School students, and plans to continue offering 3000 scholarships annually. - Local Tertiary Level Scholarships:
40 scholarships have also been offered to university students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Economics, Management and Accounting at prominent local state universities. Another 95 scholarships have been awarded to graduate students studying Business and Management at local universities. - Overseas Tertiary Level Scholarships:
The Foundation has provided 5 (five) scholarships for scholars to pursue MBA degrees at prestigious business schools in the United States of America.
